SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT — The National Weather Service has released its initial snow accumulation estimates for Thursday morning.

The biggest concern with this light snow event is the timing. Snow is expected to fall through the morning hours and could cause slippery road conditions.

The weather service said, "the area will then see several hours of light snow during the morning commute and into the early afternoon. Guidance has been trending higher ... and have increased snowfall totals to match this trend. Overall about 1 - 2 inches is expected, with the highest swath being from NYC up into the Lower Hudson Valley and then into CT."

In a hazardous weather outlook for Fairfield, New Haven, Middlesex, and northern sections of New London County, the weather service said, "A light snowfall accumulation could result in snow covered and icy roads for the Thursday morning commute."

Specifically, for coastal sections of New London County, the weather service said, "Light rain changing to light snow, and temperatures dropping to near freezing Thursday morning could make for a slow and hazardous Thursday morning commute."

NBC CT meteorologist Bob Maxon posted on Twitter Wednesday morning that he is projecting 1-3 inches of snow for most of the state, and he considered increasing that to four inches in some spots but cautioned that the weather models are still evolving. But he did add that the "AM commute looks tough." (You can view more details on the NBC CT weather forecast here).
