Hazardous Weather Outlook Issued For Southern Connecticut

The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for all of southern Connecticut. Here's what you need to know.

SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT — The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for southern Connecticut for the chance for severe thunderstorms on Thursday.

In an update Wednesday morning, the weather service wrote, "The Storm Prediction Center has placed the area in a marginal risk for severe thunderstorms Thursday. Strong to locally damaging winds will be the main threat. Brief heavy downpours are also possible."

The best chance for storms is during the afternoon and evening hours.

"Strong to locally severe thunderstorms will be possible in the afternoon into the early evening with damaging wind gusts the main threat," the weather service added. "Brief heavy rain will also be possible in the stronger storms."

Temperatures will soar into the 70s on Thursday.

Here are the forecast details for southern Connecticut:

Today: Partly sunny, with a high near 64. Calm wind becoming south 5 to 9 mph in the afternoon.

Tonight: A 20 percent chance of showers after 9pm. Patchy fog between midnight and 3am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 53. South wind 3 to 6 mph.

Thursday: A 20 percent chance of showers after 3pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 73. Calm wind becoming south 5 to 8 mph in the morning.

Thursday Night: Showers and thunderstorms likely. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 48. North wind 7 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Friday: A 40 percent chance of showers before 9am. Mostly sunny, with a high near 64. Northwest wind 5 to 7 mph becoming southwest in the afternoon.
