Zoning Board Weighs In On Day Care Center Plans In Milford
The Planning and Zoning Board considered designs that call for a large facility with an outdoor play area in Milford.
MILFORD, CT — A day care facility was unanimously approved by the Planning and Zoning Board at its meeting earlier this week.
The day care will be located at 708 Boston Post Road. Plans call for an 11,550-sq.-ft. building with a 5,000-sq.-ft. outdoor play area.
The facility will be a location of The Learning Experience, a chain with eight other locations in the state.

"They're very well run and managed," said Attorney Thomas Lynch, who spoke to the board on behalf of the project. "It's a very unique facility and other operations have been very successful."
The day care can have up to 160 children. Lynch said they anticipate to be at about 80 percent of that number.

The Learning Experience will cater to children ages six weeks to six years old. Hours will be Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
There will be 24 staff members as well, with about a third of those being part time.
The facility is on a property with an oral surgeon's office, which will remain. Combined, the two buildings will have 63 parking spaces.

The project was reviewed by all other city departments. The Police Commission determined that the traffic impact on Boston Post Road would be minimal.
The Planning and Zoning Board approved the project with the stipulation that the developer adhere to the fire marshal's recommendations. This may include adding a fire hydrant.
The board approved a special exception to allow a day care, a special permit, and a re-subdivision of the land.
The property is in a flood zone and the building will be constructed at elevation.
The board also approved a request for a special permit to establish an indoor soccer and recreation use with a separate office at 282 Quarry Road. The business will host trainings and small group clinics.
