A snapshot of DISCOVERY SUMMER
Webb Mountain Discovery Zone recently completed DISCOVERY SUMMER and a good time was had by all!
This is the first program of its type at the Discovery Zone. Children ranging from 3 years old to 4th grade enjoyed daily activities including exploring the diverse 171 acre site, nature inspired games, crafts, books and songs.
Every day provided a new surprise and a different topic. Lauren Moore of Shelton who sent her first grader stated: “My son is having such a fun time at summer camp. Andrew is excited to attend every day. I would pay for him to go every week if you offered it.” Kim Diamond of Trumbull, parent of three participating children ranging from kindergarten to 4th grade stated, “What an amazing program! Kids loved every day of camp! Honestly I wish I had found the program years ago.”
The half-day (9am-noon) program ran from June 24th-July 5th. Both weeks were filled to capacity forcing registration to be closed weeks in advance of the start date and included children from Monroe, Newtown, Trumbull and Shelton. Park Director Tom Ellbogen stated, “We are very excited about the success of our first daily summer program. Anyone wondering if kids today enjoy spending time outside in nature should have seen these kids-finding slugs, tadpoles, salamanders and of course plenty of mud. The richness of the site combined with our Program Director Charity Danjczek’s ability to weave the best assets of the park to age appropriate activities that sustain children’s interest was key to our success. Together, these factors made the experience unique, enjoyable and we hope memorable. We will look to expand the program next summer if we feel confident the quality we expect can be maintained.”
