Discovering Spring Introduces “Sibling Saturday”-It’s not just for Preschoolers Anymore!

We are expanding programming to include all those younger siblings who have desperately wanted to tag along, but haven't met the age restrictions of our preschool and kindergarten programs!

Discovering Spring- it’s not just for preschoolers anymore!  This spring, Webb Mountain Discovery Zone is expanding programming to include all those younger siblings who have desperately wanted to tag along with Big Brother or Big Sister, but haven’t met the age restrictions of our preschool and kindergarten programs!

A new weekly Siblings program beginning Monday March 25th was announced in early February and filled immediately.  Because of this interest, we are pleased to announce a second sibling class, “Siblings Saturdays”, is now open for registration.  The weekly program begins April 6th at 11:30am.

Because this class will be taught at a pace appropriate for younger siblings, we’ve also opened the class to young nature lovers without older siblings.  Any 3 yr-old eager to be outside exploring the forest is welcome to join us in this new class.

Following the format of all Discovering Spring programs, each week we read a story related to that day's topic, explore the Discovery Zone trails through the eyes of our children, and create a craft together.  Each session meets for one hour, one time a week for 5 weeks.  Our sibling class offers a special family rate of $50 for 2 students to join us for 5 weeks of fun. The standard $30 registration fee will apply to a single student.

Webb Mountain Discovery Zone is located at 71 Webb Circle in Monroe. It opened in 2007 to promote outdoor exploration and learning, in a fun, hands-on environment.  The Discovery Zone has over four miles of easy to walk trails on 171 acres with twenty eight learning stations and a no-cost, self-directed scavenger hunt that was created by Hank Gruner, Vice President of Programs for the Connecticut Science Center in Harford with the assistance of Connecticut State Archeologist Nick Bellantoni.  The interactive Scavenger Hunt (complete with scorecards!) is like an 'I-Spy' game for the outdoors that comes alive to heighten children's awareness and observational skills while having fun.  On any visit to the Discovery Zone, kids search for frogs and salamanders in vernal pools, charcoal bits and arrowheads in Colonial quarries and Native American sites, look for mammal tracks in a sandpit, and explore "life in a rotten log."
