This Memorial Day I'd like to take a moment to thank those serving our country around the globe and those who have served our country.
Several members of my family have, or are serving and I would like to thank them.
My late step-father, Captain Jack Hawkins, was Commander of the USS Sam Houston. The Sam Houston was America's seventh nuclear submarine built to launch the Polaris missle. Captain Jack Commanded the Gold crew from 1961-1965.

My brother Tim (Masuk 1978 and Providence College 1982) recently retired from 27 years in the Army as a Colonel. Tim served a year in South Korea as well as two tours in Iraq.
My Niece (Tim's second) is flying Blackhacks in Afganastan and her husband is flying the Apache attack helicopter in Afganastan as well. Both have already seen one tour of Iraq.

Tim also has a child in South Korea and another in Army ROTC in college.
My father in law was 101st Airborne. My brother in law served in the Airforce.
We have much to be proud of today. Serving America is not for everyone, but serves everyone. I am grateful to all who have kept us safe.
Let's all plant something red, white and blue this year!
Happy Memorial Day!
