Hi Y’All From Convention City

Pat Paniccia's blog from the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, NC.

Sunday in Charlotte was busier with more delegates arriving and even more media arriving. Metal barriers are everywhere throughout the city. Streets are blocked off along with many sidewalks. I am sure after Sunday, walking around leisurely will not exist.

There was a demonstration yesterday down College Street past Wells Fargo and the convention center, made up of at least six groups consisting of CodePink.Org, the Occupy Movement, anti-war, women’s choice groups, gay lesbian trans-gender, etc. They had signs, were chanting slogans and handing out flyers.

There was a heavy police presence at every intersection and all along the route. I saw Piers Morgan and journalist Jeff Greenfield on Sunday. I also saw a six-ton sand sculpture of President Obama.

We met several people who had lived in Connecticut – from New Haven, Cheshire and New London.

I also met Scott Campbell holding his sign “Help Your Neighbor.com” HelpYourNeighbor.com is a site where you can list a need and someone from that area can sign on and offer to help you. Campbell just started the site two months ago and it’s already in over 200 cities. He is doing this pro bono and I think it’s worth a look.

Today the remaining delegates arrive. The Connecticut delegates will enjoy a wine tasting at a vineyard. Guess where it is? In Monroe, North Carolina.

It’s time to get serious on Tuesday when the convention begins. I’ll continue to report, but I heard Oprah is coming. Don’t know when.
