MOVE Endorses a YES Vote on Tuesday

After two consecutive years of 0% increase, a proposed 1.72% increase in the school budget represents true fiscal restraint.

There has been much posted on the Monroe Patch regarding this year's budget.  We've heard from Town Council, Board of Education, Board of Finance and at least ten commenters who have made hundreds of comments of varying validity.

We've stayed away from the hype.  Instead, we have done what we've always done.  We have taken the information presented by our elected officials, attended the hearings, asked questions, spoken to both the First Selectman and the Superintendent.  At the end of all of our research, we have decided that this budget is the right budget for Monroe.

REMEMBER TO GET OUT AND VOTE ON TUESDAY, APRIL 2!!!

In times of continuing economic challenges, it should be noted how well the Board of Education, Town Council, First Selectman, and Board of Finance worked together toward a budget proposal that is truly lean while still addressing the critical needs of both the schools and the town.

We at Monroe's Organized Voters for Education (MOVE), believe that Jim Agostine, our Superintendent of the school district, should be particularly commended for holding down costs. After two consecutive years of 0% increase, a proposed 1.72% increase in the school budget which covers both contractual obligations and full day kindergarten, represents true fiscal restraint and a real respect for the hardworking taxpayers of Monroe (to hear more about this budget from the Superintendent himself, click here to see his detailed budget explanation).

Therefore, we at MOVE, fully endorse the Monroe 2013-2014 proposed budget, and encourage all residents to vote YES for the referendum on Tuesday, April 2nd.

Sincerely,
