My Values: Hard Work and Education
I have known what the term hard work has meant since Day 1. This hard work will not only carry over, but will be seen on a daily basis out of my office if elected your First Selectman.
I learned the importance of working hard and getting an education from my parents; values I passed onto my children. I grew up in an Italian household — both sets of grandparents — each raising seven children — came to the United States from Naples landing in New Jersey and Bridgeport. My parents were blue-collar workers — my father being a short-order cook and my mother working in a factory. I have known what the term hard work has meant since Day 1. This hard work will not only carry over, but will be seen on a daily basis out of my office if elected your First Selectman.
Also, I was born in Bridgeport, lived in Norwalk and Celeveland, Ohio for a few years and then returned to Connecticut after I married. My husband and I bought property in Monroe and eventually we built our home. I also have two sisters, one still in Cleveland and one living in Clinton, Connecticut.
Regarding my education, I was the first in my family to go to college. My parents always encouraged me to get an education, although they themselves never got the oppurtunity. While working for the Town of Monroe, I went to Western Connecticut State University at nights and earned my degree in Business Administration, cum laude. You cannot imagine the pride I felt when I graduated from WCSU and my son from Central Connecticut State University a week later.

In getting to know me better, you can now see why hard work and education is at my core. These values will be brought to the forefront and permeate throughout my adminisration as First Selectman. I look forward to a healthy dialogue with the residents of Monroe through events in town and throughout the remainder of this blog which will now focus on the issues at hand.
