Parks and Recreation Offers Summer Skyhawks Programs

Monroe Parks and Recreation is once again offering Skyhawks programs this summer. Registration is on-line at www.monroerec.org.

Since 1979, Skyhawks Sports has led safe, fun and skill-focused sports camps and programs for youth between the ages of 3-12.  They offer different sports and countless ways for your child to grow.  The camps range from soccer to baseball to our popular multi-sport camp where kids sample three different sports in one camp.  All programs are at Wolfe Park and will meet at the basketball courts the first day of each program.

Flag Football - Skyhawks flag football is the perfect program for your young athletes who want a complete introduction to America's Game or for those who simply want to brush up on their skills in preparation for league play. Through the 'skill of the day' campers will learn skills on both sides of the ball including the core components of passing, catching, and de-flagging or defensive positioning - all presented in a fun & positive environment. The week will end with the Skyhawks Sports Bowl, giving participants a chance to showcase their skills on the gridiron!  Program is for ages 7-12 and will be held July 8-12 from 9-12.  Fee:  $115 res/$125 non-res.

Multi-Sport - This camp is designed to introduce young athletes to a variety of different sports in one setting.  For this program we combine 2-3 sports into one fun-filled week. Athletes will learn the rules and essentials of each sport through skill-based games and scrimmages.  Program is for ages 7-12.  “Capture the Flag, Ultimate Frisbee and Kickball” is held July 1-3 from 9-12 with a fee of $75 res/$85 non-res.  “Soccer and Basketball” Session 1 is June 25-28 from 9-1 with a fee of $85 res/$95 non-res.  Session 2 is July 29-August 2 from 9-1 with a fee of $100 res/$110 non-res.  “Baseball and Flag Football” Session 1 is June 25-28 from 1-3 with a fee of $25 res/$35 non-res.  Session 2 is July 29-August 2 from 1-3 with a fee of $35 res/$45 non-res.

S.N.A.G. [Starting New at Golf] - One of the most popular programs, Skyhawks Golf focuses on building the confidence of young athletes through proper technique and refining the essential skills of the game.  Golf is a challenging and lifelong sport, so young athletes need proper focus on the fundamentals of form, swinging, putting and body positioning. To assist in this training, Skyhawks has adopted the SNAG (Starting New At Golf) system to its curriculum.  Developed by PGA professionals, SNAG is specifically designed for the entry-level player; SNAG simplifies instruction so that young players can make an easy & effective transition onto the golf course.  No need to bring your own clubs, all equipment is provided. For safety reasons, they utilize special helmets for all campers and keep the instructor to camper ratio for this program very low, resulting in limited ability.  As a result these programs fill up quickly.  Program is for ages 5-8 and will be held July 22-26 from 9-12.  Fee:  $115 res/$125 non-res.

Soccer – Using a progressive curriculum, Skyhawks staff will ensure your young athlete will gain the technical skills & sport knowledge required for their next step into soccer. This camp focuses on dribbling, passing, shooting, and ball control. By the end of the camp your child will have learned new life skills such as teamwork and sportsmanship, made new friends, and improved their sport skills preparing them to play for the playground or league play!  Program is July 15-19 from 9-12 for ages 5-7 and 9-1 for ages 7-12.  Fee is $115 res/$125 non-res.

Basketball - Using a progressive curriculum and focusing on the whole player, Skyhawks staff teach your child the skills they need for both on and off the court to be a better athlete. Their sport-specific staff will focus on respect, teamwork and responsibility as they start each day with a 'skill of the day' and progress to drills and games making an unforgettable camp experience for your young athlete.  After a week of passing, shooting, dribbling and rebounding you will see why this is one of our most popular programs.  Program is July 29-August 2 from 9-12 for ages 5-7.  Fee is $115 res/$125 non-res.

Mini-Hawk - This multi-sport program was developed to give children a positive first step into athletics.  The essentials of baseball, basketball and soccer are taught in a safe, structured environment with lots of encouragement and a big focus on fun.  The Mini-Hawk games and activities are designed to allow campers to explore balance, movement, hand/eye coordination, and skill development at their own pace.  Skyhawks staff is trained to handle the specific needs of young athletes.  The program is for ages 4-7.  Session 1 is June 25-28 from 9-12 with a fee of $95 res/$105 non-res.  Session 2 is July 8-12 from 9-12 with a fee of $115 res/$125 non-res.
