Saturday in Charlotte started the week of events for the Democratic National Committee. The TV Stations are setting up their locations, delegates are beginning to arrive.
I attended the Rules Committee meeting with fellow Connecticut resident Charles Lee of Greenwich. The Rules Committee is responsible for the procedural matters of the Convention. It proposes the "Permanent Rules of Procedure" under which the Convention will conduct its business. It also proposes the agenda for the Convention, recommends the Convention Officers, and is responsible for considering matters not covered by the other committees. Its recommendations are presented in a report voted on by the delegates to the convention on Tuesday.
There are already protesters from the Occupy movement camped out in Marshall Park where they were surprised by a huge storm, remnants of Isaac, in the afternoon when a huge tree was completly uprooted, landing on three cars. No injuries were reported.

The security presence here is HUGE, police, guards, dogs, etc. everywhere. In fact all downtown banks and businesses are closed next week, telling workers to work from their homes. Downtown college campuses are also closed for the week.
I will send out reports for the rest of the week informing you about ongoing events, speakers and Connecticut delegates.
