Monroe Proclaims Constitution Week

The First Selectman of Monroe, Stephen Vavrek, proclaimed September 17-23 Constitution Week.  He noted that this year marks the two hundred twenty-sixth anniversary of the drafting of the Constitution.  Mr. Vavrek asks our citizens to reaffirm the ideals of the Framers of the constitution had in 1787 by vigilantly protecting the freedoms guaranteed to us through this guardian of our liberties, remembering that lost rights may never be regained.

Sarah Riggs Humphreys-Mary Silliman Chapter (SRH-MS) Regent Christy Hendrie thanked the First Selectman and noted that Monroe residents were willing to sacrifice their lives and fortunes to achieve our freedoms.  Many participated in the American Revolution and helped make the Constitution a reality.   She noted that the DAR wishes to encourage every generation of Americans to celebrate the spirit of the men and women who achieved our nation's independence.

The DAR perpetuates the memory and spirit of the men and women who won American independence.  The group also helps maintain historic state properties.  Any woman over 18 who can prove an ancestor served in the American Revolution is a prospective member.  For more information on the DAR go online at http://www.sarahriggshumphreysDAR.org
