Monroe Police Warn of Telephone Scam
Monroe residents are reporting they are being contacted by State and Federal agencies demanding payment.

The Monroe Police Department announced Wednesday that they are receiving an increased amount of complaints from residents stating they are being contacted by State and Federal agencies demanding payment, according to a release by Lt. Brian McCauley.
Police say if you receive one of these calls, not to give out any personal information or send money in any form such as credit card, bank check, money order, money cards.
Monroe Police stated in a release that a commonly reported scam is the “Internal Revenue Service” calling and demanding immediate payment of back taxes owed. The caller threatens the person with arrest if they don’t send immediate payment.

If you receive a similar call, try to get a call back number and/or name, or make note of the telephone number if it is comes through on your Caller ID. Contact the Monroe Police Department immediately to alert them of the call.
“Telephone scams are many and varied. However, they all have one intent- to obtain your personal information in order to fraudulently access your money. Be aware that these scammers are out there, and report any suspicious calls,” the Monroe Police Department stated.
