Officials Celebrate New Stevenson Post Office with Ribbon Cutting

A ribbon cutting was held this week at the brand new Stevenson Post Office on Route 34 in Monroe.

MONROE, CT-- A ribbon cutting was held this week at the brand new Stevenson Post Office in Monroe.

The post office recently reopened in its new location, 230 Roosevelt Drive on Route 34 after closing in September 2014.

The previous location at 281 Cottage Street, closed Sept. 30, 2014 due to the expiration of the lease. A Mobile Post Office was set up at 244 Roosevelt Street in Monroe after the landlord informed the Postal Service that he did not wish to renew the lease.

After the old location closed, customers opposed the new location on Route 111, according to First Selectman Steve Vavrek.

"By calling both U.S. Senator Murphy and Rep. Jim Himes we got them the new location. It took longer than the residents wanted but we were persistent," Vavrek said.
