Traffic Light Possible Near Route 111 Shopping Plaza Near Monroe
The area is quite busy due to a number of popular businesses.
A traffic light may be coming to the Monroe Turnpike shopping plaza after all.
Trumbull officials recently met with state Department of Transportation officials to discuss traffic issues on the turnpike, also known as Route 111.
The plaza contains the Trumbull Fitness Edge gym, Chip’s Restaurant and several other businesses. It is near the Trumbull/Monroe border.

Then Police Chief Thomas Kiely sent a letter to the state asking for a traffic study to be performed in the area last year, according to the Connecticut Post.
Officials from the state Department of Transportation responded in June and recommended the installation of a traffic light at the plaza. No further response from the town was received and the DOT considered the matter closed.

First Selectman Tim Herbst said that the route is a state road and that the state should tell the town what needs to be done. Recent talks with the DOT have rekindled talks about the project.
Town officials recommended that a light be placed at the intersection of Route 111 and Old Mine Road and that the intersection be realigned.
Plaza owner Phil DiGennaro said that he asked the DOT to allow him to put a traffic light at the plaza, but they declined.
