Changing of the Guard for local charity

The Board of Directors of Serenity Recovery Living Centers,Inc. (SRLC) Groton, CT is pleased to announce the appointment of Mark W. Weber as President and CEO. SRLC, Inc. a not-for-profit local charity established to provide safe and secure housing for men (and women) who are starting on the road to recovery from chemical addiction. Mr. Weber replaces founder and former CEO Vince Guilfoil who retired on February 2, 2013. Mr. Guilfoil opened his first “sober house” in Groton 12 years ago to “repay a gift that was freely given to him.” During his tenure the mission grew from a single house on Rt. 1 in Groton known as Serenity Lodge to as many as 6 houses located in New London and Norwich. In his retirement letter Mr. Guilfoil said of Mr. Weber, “he shares the commitment and vision to move forward.” Stating further that it was time for, “a complete restructuring of the board and a review of the bylaws” to assure that the mission will continue long into the future to serve those in need. Mr. Weber said in a recent letter to the board and the friends of Serenity Lodge that, “the housing need is great for people returning to recovery or who are new to recovery with nowhere else to turn. We currently have a waiting list of people who have few alternatives and are chasing a new way of life. We accept no government money so the magic happens with donations and the resident’s payment of a fair share of the expenses. We are not a program with the typical curriculum, but simply a safe place to live that follows the precepts of all 12 step recovery programs. One day at a time we see wholesale miracles and watch people become productive members of society who are welcomed back to their families and friends. Mr. Guilfoil has helped over 1,600 people on the road to recovery and it is our hope to continue that altruistic dream long into the future. Mr. Weber noted that we are currently looking for additional housing in New London. , CT is pleased to announce the appointment of Mark W. Weber as President and CEO.
