Daily Five: Thank You Irene, Congrats Donna Rice and 77 Today!

Your Five, today, Tuesday April 9

Written and reported by Ellyn Santiago.

1. Seventy-two and tons of sun early, with some showers developing later in the day and evening; we’ll take it!

2. There are three Board of Education meetings today, albeit two are committee meetings. The regular meeting at 6 p.m. at Montville High School features a packed agenda.

3. Yesterday we ran an obituary for a woman named Irene Szarynsk. She passed away last Friday at the age of 93. A long life we hope was filled with lots of love and fond memories. We’re sure it was. Here’s the reason I bring it up today: Irene was the ‘lunch lady’ at Montville High School for decades beginning in the early 1970s. what I found s moving was that was predominantly featured in her obituary which means, clearly, it was a very important job for her and a big part of her life, aside from her family, of course. So today, for those of you that attended MHS in the 70’s and 80’s, a moment of silence for Irene, who made sure you had a hot lunch each day undoubtedly served with lots of love.

4. Congratulations to the Montville Public Schools Paraprofessional of the Year 2014 – Donna Rice, a Special Needs Paraprofessional at Leonard J. Tyl Middle School and semifinalists for Paraprofessional of the Year 2014 – Peggy Kelley, Debbie Murphy, and Janet Wrobel. Thank you all for your hard work and dedication. Being a para is a tough job; you have got to love your work!

5. Governor Malloy has proclaimed today as “Husky Day” in the State of Connecticut and is asking residents to show their Husky pride by wearing blue and white, and cheering on their home team. The Huskies will play the Lady Cardinals tonight at 8:30 p.m.  And if we win, Malloy gets a Kentucky ham.
