Decision Reached On Montville School Superintendent's Future

He was embroiled in the Montville High School "fight club" scandal.

MONTVILLE, CT — Montville Schools Superintendent Brian Levesque resigned on Monday, the announcement coming Wednesday following the dropping of charges against him in the Montville High School "fight club" scandal that rocked the district in recent months.

"On October 22, 2018, the Montville Board of Education and Former Superintendent Brian Levesque entered into an agreement whereby Mr. Levesque voluntarily resigned as Superintendent of Schools," wrote the board and Levesque in a joint statement sent to Patch and other media outlets. "The Montville Board of Education thanks Mr. Levesque for his service as Superintendent since September 1, 2013. Based on the decision of Mr. Levesque to resign from his employment as Superintendent, the Montville Board of Education will move forward to identify a process for conducting a search for a new Superintendent of Schools."

Levesque was one of three administrators, and one former substitute teacher, who faced charges in connection with the scandal, in which the former sub monitored slap-boxing fights in a closed classroom at the high school. The administrators were accused of not properly acting on the situation where minors could have been injured and/or abused.

The Day reports that Levesque's contract was bought out by the district. He was in year two of a three-year agreement with an annual salary of nearly $180,000.

Charges also were dropped against former Principal Jeffrey Theodoss, who recently retired. Ryan Fish, the former substitute teacher, was granted accelerated rehabilitation by the court, a type of probation.
