Andrew Avenue Elementary School Presents Spring Concert and Art Show

The spring concerts continued at Naugatuck High School's Davis Auditorium.

Naugatuck, CT - Andrew Avenue Elementary presented two spring concerts on Thursday evening at the Davis Auditorium at Naugatuck High School. Kindergarten, grade one and grade two students began their concert at 6:00pm and the grade three and grade four students took to the stage a little over an hour later. All of the Andrew Avenue students were under the direction of music teacher Manny Arboleda.

Kindergarten students opened with “Hello Everybody.” “Donkey Song” was followed by “Music All Over Me,” “Smile,” “Little Hans,” the classic “This Land is Your Land,” and “Mary Mack.” The closing number, which many other students seated in the audience awaiting their entrance joined in on, was “BINGO.”

The kindergarten students moved to the seats of the first graders while they took to the stage. “I’m Happy to See You,” opened their set. “Hello, Hello,” “Liza,” a musical version of the Pledge of Allegiance, and finally “Twinkle” were on their set list.

The first grade students took the seats of the second graders and the older students came up to the risers. “Let’s All Rejoice” was followed by “She’ll Be Coming ‘Round the Mountain,” “Giddy Up,” and “Three Little Bears.”

All of the students who attended the concert then returned to the stage to perform a rousing “Put a Little Love in Your Heart.”

The next concert began with the third grade students singing “Joshua.” A fabulous “Don’t Worry, Be Happy” was next, followed by “On the Road” and a spirited “Roar.” The third graders then picked up their recorders to perform “Hot Cross Buns,” “BAG GAB,” “Mary Had a Little Frog,” “Au Claire de la Lune,” and finally “Girls and Boys Blues.”

The fourth grade set began with their recorder numbers. They included “Juba,” “Cobbler Cobbler,” “Polka,” “Jacob Drink,” and a fitting final number of “Shave and Haircut.” The vocal music portion began with a lovely “If I Have My Ticket.” My favorite piece “Fifty Nifty” was followed by “Sir Duke,” and “Go the Distance.” Many of the vocal numbers were sung with recorded tracks and sounded very professional.

The upper grades concert ended with a finale of “Siyahamba” by all the students who had participated in the hour of music.

Principal Taran Gruber thanked many Andrew Avenue teachers who volunteered their time to oversee their students and help them get on and off the stage. He also reminded parents that any photos taken of their child that included other students could not be shared on social media because some Andrew Avenue parents have opted out of media permission for their child. Therefore, I will not be posting photos of the concert where students could be recognized.

The concerts also included an art show in the lobby of the high school auditorium. Andrew Avenue art teacher Izabela Polkowski organized the displays of the artwork she had done with her students in the lobby of the auditorium.
