WATERBURY, CT — Wells Fargo has announced it will close one of its Waterbury bank branches later this summer, joining a growing list of branch locations in Connecticut set to close this year.

Wells Fargo has already announced plans to close locations in Danbury and Darien later this summer.

In an email to Patch, Wells Fargo spokesperson Jacqueline Hlavenka-Sansone confirmed the Waterbury Town Plot branch, located at 761 Highland Avenue, will officially close Aug. 16 at noon.

The bank also filed a notice of intent to close the Waterbury branch with the Office of the Comptroller of Currency on May 16.

"We apologize for any inconvenience this might cause," Hlavenka-Sansone said, "and customers can continue to bank with us at our other nearby locations, including our Valley Mall branch at 800 Wolcott Street in Waterbury, approximately 2.89 miles away."

Other nearby branches include a Waterbury Plaza location at 224 Chase Avenue and a Watertown Straits location at 628 Straits Turnpike in Watertown.

Hlavenka-Sansone did not confirm how many jobs would be affected by the Waterbury branch's closure.

"At this time, we are reviewing staffing needs and will determine new location assignments for employees at nearby branches," Hlavenka-Sansone said.

The news comes less than a month after Wells Fargo announced branch locations in Darien, located at 950 Post Road, and Danbury, located at 108 Mill Plain Road, will close July 26.

"Branches continue to play an important role in the way we serve our customers," Hlavenka-Sansone said, "and we continuously evaluate our branch network in light of changing customer needs, the increase in the use of digital banking, market factors and economic trends."

Despite the recently announced closures, Wells Fargo will still have a sizable presence in the Nutmeg State. The bank currently operates 56 branches in 43 different cities and towns in Connecticut, as well as 4,543 additional locations in 36 states.
