Area High School Students Take Home HALO Awards
Lots of excited teens were at Waterbury's Palace Theater for the annual HALO awards.
Many local high school students brought home a statue with a star on Wednesday night.
The Waterbury Arts Magnet School (WAMS) had a strong showing at Wednesday night's edition of the HALO awards spearheaded by Seven Angels Theater. The awards were given out at Waterbury's Palace Theater.
Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical:• WAMS- Zach Carter as Caldwell Cladwell in Urinetown

Best Featured Actress in a Musical: • WAMS- Alexa Campagna as Cinderella
Best Lighting Design & Execution • WAMS- Annie Scheuermann for Hay Fever & Urinetown

Artistic Director Award - WAMS Into the Woods for their free performance for veterans.
Woodland Regional High School also took home four wins.
Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Play:
• Woodland Regional HS- Catherine Pelkey as Annie Sullivan in The Miracle Worker
Best Performance by a Supporting Actress in a Play:
• Woodland Regional HS- Erika Pellegrino as Helen Keller in The Miracle Worker
Best Costume Design & Execution
• Woodland Regional HS- Katie Steinbacher for The Miracle Worker & Grease
$1000 Scholarship to a graduating senior - Catherine Pelkey
There was a tie for Best Performance by an Actor in a Comic Role in a Musical:
• Guilford HS- Ben Gelinas as Dennis in All Shook Up
• Kennedy HS- Damian Luciano as Hysterium in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum
Crosby HS won a special award for Against All Odds for overcoming all obstacles with their production,
Leah Ciccone, a senior at Wolcott HS won the Audition Admission and Beyond Scholarship. Ms. Ciccone recently starred in Wolcott's production of All Shook Up.
The Best Musical prize was awarded to Cheshire HS for their production of Aida. The Cheshire High students performed "The Dance of the Robe" from their show on the Palace stage on Wednesday night and included some amazing dancing. Best Performance by a Couple or Duo in a Musical was awarded to Cheshire HS's Nathalya Diosa & Matt Feinberg as Aida & Radames in Aida.
Southington High School also did Aida this year and performed "The Gods Love Nubia" from their presentation of the show on Wednesday. Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical went to Southington HS's Gabrielle Baker as Aida in Aida. Students from Jonathan Law HS in Milford were also in attendance.Best Featured Creatures went to Jonathan Law HS's Melissa Padilla as the Voice of the Plant in Little Shop of Horrors and Best Specialty Ensemble in a Musical went to Jocelyn Travis, Vicky Toth & Kira Topalian as Chiffon, Crystal & Ronette in Little Shop of Horrors.
