Auditions Announced for Two Shows at Connecticut Cabaret Theatre

The Connecticut Cabaret Theatre is holding an open casting call for the following two shows for the 2014/15 Season

THE ADDAMS FAMILY – THE MUSICAL (musical) and THE OLDEST PROFESSION (play-comedy). All roles are open. Please call 860-829-1248 to set an appointment. For those auditioning for the musical please  prepare 2 songs (uptempo and ballad) and a monologue. For those audition for the play  prepare a monologue.

THE OLDEST PROFESSION a comedy by Paula Vogel: Five aging practitioners of the oldest profession are faced with a diminishing clientele, increased competition for their niche market, and aching joints. With wit, compassion, and humor, they struggle to find and learn new tricks as they fight to stay in the Life.

THE ADDAMS FAMILY- THE MUSICAL 
book by Rick Elice and Marshall Brickman; Score by Andrew Lippa – Wednesday Addams, the ultimate princess of darkness, has grown up and fallen in love with a sweet, smart young man from a respectable family. A man her parents have never met. And if that weren’t upsetting enough, she confides in her father and begs him not to tell her mother. Now, Gomez Addams must do something he’s never done before — keep a secret from his beloved wife, Morticia. Everything will change for the whole family on the fateful night they host a dinner for Wednesday’s “normal” boyfriend and his parents.

Please review the character breakdown for both shows listed below.
Seeking: THE ADDAMS FAMILY- THE MUSICAL GOMEZ ADDAMS: Caucasian male actor. A man of Spanish descent who takes great pride in his family and revels in all it means to be an “Addams.” He struggles with having to keep his daughters secret from his wife, whom he adores more than death. Smart, comedic actor with tenor vocals.  

MORTICIA ADDAMS
: Caucasian woman, in shape, attractive, leggy, the strength of the family. An easy comedic actress with a sexy, dry wit. Feels her husband is hiding something from her and will use any tactic to lure the secret out. A strong dancer/mover with alto/mezzo soprano vocals.  

UNCLE FESTER:
Caucasian male actor. The androgynous family member who serves as the musicals narrator. He is larger than life, an energetic, joyous, child-like presence. A vaudeville style comedian with tenor vocals.  

WEDNESDAY ADDAMS
: Caucasian woman. Wednesday is an attractive, in shape girl who has the same dry wit and sensibility of her mother. Finds love with a “normal” boy (Lucas) and wants to introduce his family to hers. Experiences the youthful drama that comes with first love. Lucas can actually puts a smile on her face. Strong pop belt vocals.  

GRANDMA
: Caucasian woman. She is a feisty 102 year old woman. Fun and quirky, but don’t mess with Grandma. Comedic actress with strong character vocals.

PUGSLEY ADDAMS
: Young Caucasian male actor who plays 12 years old. A charming, funny, husky boy who loves being tortured by his sister. He wants to ensure he won’t lose his sister to her new boyfriend so he takes matters into his own hands. Strong, high vocals. Voice not yet changed.  

LURCH
: Caucasian male actor. A very tall male character, the Addams butler who knows all. He speaks in moans and groans without becoming a cartoon version of himself. His movement is always very slow Character actor with a low bass vocals to Eb.

MAL BEINEKE
: Caucasian male. Stuffy father of Lucas and exasperated husband to his rhyming wife, Alice. At one time was a follower of The Grateful Dead but has lost that side of himself. Always looking out for his family. Male actor with high baritone/ tenor vocals.

ALICE BEINEK
E: Caucasian woman. Mother of Lucas, devoted to her family so she puts aside her own desires. In shape, quirky female who often speaks in rhyme. While at the Addams Family dinner party, she drinks a potion that causes her to let her hair down and speak her truth. Comedic actress with soprano / belt vocals.  

LUCAS BEINEKE
: Caucasian male, attractive, in shape young man. Fell in love with Wednesday Addams and plans to marry her. Experiences the youthful pain and drama of young love and struggles with the differences between his family and the Addams family. Contemporary pop tenor vocals.  

THE ANCESTORS
: Male and female ensemble singer/dancers who are smart performers.  dancers who sing and have a fun, quirky sensibility. All ensemble members will understudy principal roles. Knowledge of tango and flamenco dancing a plus.

Seeking: THE OLDEST PROFESSION  
VERA: The youngest in the group (40-45), loyal, sensitive, no matter her years, still a girl. Loves the sun, loves food. Still a devout Catholic. Strong work ethic.  
EDNA
: Next in line (45-50). A good time girl. A little bit brassy. Loves her work; assigned to the more adventurous clientele.  
LILLIAN: (50s) Age has been gentle. Turns the heads of much younger men. Sure of herself, a woman of great style and great audacity. The rose of Mae’s stable.  
URSULA: (50s) Determined. Believes in rules, merit promotion, and supply-side economics. She is usually right, and does not understand why her good intentions are not more welcomed.  
MAE
: (50s) A self-made women, a leader who finds the management of men ridiculously easy, and has mastered the management of women as well. She looks after her girls.
