Carjacking At Naugatuck Deli Thwarted By Passerby With Hammer: Police
Police said the accused carjacker fled from the deli through a nearby wooded area and was later arrested by officers.
NAUGATUCK, CT — An attempted carjacking at a deli in town over the weekend was thwarted by a passerby with a hammer, according to police.
In a news release, police said a carjacking was reported Saturday around 5:30 p.m. at Fulling Mills Deli on Prospect Street.
After further investigation, officers determined Guy Guery, 23, of Naugatuck, tried to steal a vehicle at the deli while a person was inside it, however a passerby armed with a hammer intervened, according to police.

Guery then fled the area on foot through a nearby wooded area. Officers quickly found Guery a short distance away and arrested him, police said.
Guery was charged with attempted carjacking by robbery, second-degree reckless endangerment and interfering with officer/resisting arrest.

Guery was held on a $500,000 bond and arraigned in court Monday morning. He was also found to have several outstanding failure to appear in court warrants, for which he was also charged during his arrest, according to police.
"The Naugatuck Police Department commends the collaborative efforts of its officers," police said in a news release, "who brought a swift resolution to this incident."
