'The Color Purple' Cast Recording Wins a Grammy Award
Congratulations to Van Dean, a producer of the album with Broadway Records.
On Sunday evening, the cast recording of 'The Color Purple' won the 2017 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album. The recording from Broadway Records was nominated with the cast recordings from 'Bright Star,' 'Fiddler on the Roof' (also produced by Broadway Records) as well as 'Kinky Boots' (London recording), and 'Waitress.'

The Color Purple won the 2016 Tony Award for Best Revival in the musical category. Last year the 2016 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theatre Album went to Hamilton.
On 'The Color Purple' cast album we can hear Tony winner Cynthia Erivo, Tony nominee Danielle Brooks, and Grammy winner Jennifer Hudson as soloists. The principal singers share the prize with producers Bray, Van Dean, Frank Filipetti, Roy Furman, Scott Sanders, and Jhett Tolentino, and the composer-lyricist team of Bray, Russell, and Willis.

Van Dean is the President of Broadway Records and a producer of 10 Broadway musicals and plays (and counting,) including 'Anastasia The Musical.' Mr. Dean, who can be seen in this video in the traditional tux, supports the theatrical wing of NewArts in Newtown, CT and is a true gentleman. No one deserves this honor more than him.
