Daniel Capone Achieves the Rank of Eagle Scout

Daniel Capone was awarded his Eagle Scout pin at a Court of Honor held at St. Michael's Episcopal Church Hall on Sunday, Nov. 17. Dan is a member of Troop 138 in Naugatuck.

The Eagle Scout Court of Honor is held when a Scout reaches the highest rank in Scouting. Scoutmaster Ed Fennell presented Dan with his pin during an hour long ceremony that was attended by at least 150 people. Father Kevin Forsyth of St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church gave the invocation and blessing and Senior Patrol Leader Matt Lyons presented the candidate. Honored guests include Pack 110 Scoutmaster Franklin Behlman and Naugatuck Mayor Bob Mezzo.

The Eagle Scout presented a mother's pin to his very proud mom, Karen Capone and his father's pin to his grandfather in a touching part of the ceremony. Dan's beloved father Michael A. Capone, passed away in 2001.

Some of Dan's Scouting accomplishments include leading the 2012 Veteran's Day Parade in Naugatuck, volunteering a total of over 280 hours, and becoming an Order of the Arrow Member. He has backpacked twice at Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico for a combined total of over 280 hours.

Dan received an 'Excellence in Youth Initiative Award in May.

His required Eagle project was completed in October of last year. At Toby's Pond in Beacon Falls, Dan led a group of volunteers to build a hiking path and a campsite with fire ring and benches for town resident and Scout use. It took 390 hours (332 by volunteers and 58 by Dan himself) to complete the project and is the second highest Eagle Scout project hours in the Council's history.
