Drama Club Certificates Awarded at Board of Education Meeting

The spotlight was on three talented Western School actors at the June Board of Education meeting held at their school.

Western School third grade teacher Stephanie Colella recently nominated students for their annual award for the performing arts. The students were among the youngest members in the Western/Naugatuck High School Drama Club and appeared in the wonderful production of The Wizard of Oz in February at the Davis Auditorium. The three students were awarded their certificates at the June Board of Education meeting on Thursday night. BOE member Ethel Grant presented the awards at the beginning of the meeting held at Western School.

The three talented recipients included Saige Winslow who played the role of the Coroner in The Wizard of Oz, Manuel Silva who played the leading role of Zeke and the Cowardly Lion and Skylar DeFazio, who covered the roles of a Lullaby League member and an Ozian door guard.

After the certificates were awarded, BOE Chair David Heller congratulated all three talented actors and mentioned how much he enjoyed Mr. Silva's performance as Lion. They were very excited to pose for a photo outside their school after they received their awards.

Sincere congratulations to all three of these budding thespians. I enjoyed your performances all three times that I attended the show and I am so proud of each of you.
