Estate of Naugatuck Woman Settles Housing Authority Lawsuit
The Naugatuck Housing Authority did not admit liability while agreeing to the settlement. The woman froze to death.

A settlement has been reached in a lawsuit that involved a Naugatuck woman freezing to death.
The estate of Margaret Marshall agreed to a $237,500 monetary payout from the Naugatuck Housing Authority, according to the Connecticut Law Tribune.
Marshall slipped and fell on ice at the Oak Terrace senior and disabled housing complex between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m. on Feb. 7, 2010. She was unable to get up and died from hypothermia.

A jury trial last year awarded the estate $800,000, but jurors said they did not think the housing authority’s negligence caused the woman’s death.
The verdict was reduced to $60,000.

To avoid further litigation, both sides compromised and came up with the settlement, though the housing authority did not admit any liability.
