Gourmet Fruitcakes Available at Edible Dreams

Stop by the bakery on North Main Street in Naugatuck to sample the gourmet fruitcakes available to ship anywhere in the US.

Naugatuck, CT - Fruitcake….either you love it or you hate it?

In my case, I had never even tasted it, so I didn’t really know what to expect. I heard that Edible Dreams Custom Cakes is offering gourmet fruitcakes that can be shipped to anywhere in the United States. These fruitcakes are made from the special recipe of the mother of Edward Hughes, the owner of Edible Dreams.

Mr. Hughes’ mother travels from Vermont to bake some of the fruitcakes using the family recipes at her son’s bakery on North Main Street in Naugatuck. Her proud son told me that over 100,000 of the cakes have been sold nationwide and all are made from scratch. The holiday version makes a great gift and contains apples, carrots, raisins, cranberries, walnuts, maple syrup and is smothered with brandy as the preservative.

I tasted the Christmas Harvest Cake that is sold in 24 ounce loaves. It is chock full of dried fruit, almonds, and dark chocolate chunks that are baked into a rich almond-flavored batter. It is topped with almond slices and is nicely rich.

The Maple Walnut Cake is labeled “they are not what you think.” This 24 ounce loaf is dark and rich and topped with large walnut pieces. Refrigeration extends shelf life considerably is noted on the label.

My favorite of the recipes was the Chocolate Cherry Delight, made with sweet dark cherries, coconut, chocolate, raisins, bananas and walnuts. This loaf is available in a smaller size, a pound of yumminess.

You can stop by the bakery at North Main Street or call Mr. Hughes at 203 632-9820 to order a fruitcake; samples of the fruitcake are available at the bakery.
