Important Palace Theater Traffic Information
Trust me...you want to be forewarned before you head to the Palace.
The Palace Theaters' Frank Tavera has released this notice to all Palace patrons:
For those of you who have yet to venture down East Main Street this month, you might be surprised to see that the Palace Theater is now situated next door to an active construction site. UConn is in the process of expanding its services to the building adjacent to the Palace, and rumor has it, a Starbucks will be taking up residency in the store front of what was once referred to as the Rectory Building.
Although this progress truly is something to be excited about, it does come with a few bumps in the road... or should I say, traffic flow “opportunities.” As East Main Street is reduced to two lanes of traffic for the next several months, we do anticipate heavy vehicle and foot traffic during most performances. To best prepare for your arrival and departure from the theater, we have put together the following parking and traffic instructions for your review. Please feel free to contact the Box Office at 203.346.2000 with any questions and remember to allow ample time for your arrival to the theater.

As the result of an exciting, new construction project taking place on East Main Street, only two lanes of traffic will be temporarily open for travel in front of the Palace Theater lobby and Box Office entrances. Please plan accordingly, as patrons may experience traffic delays during most performances.
The Scovill Street parking garage will remain OPEN during this timeframe and will not be impacted by the construction site. The Palace does, however, suggest that patrons allow extra time for parking and walking to the theater before each show.
Please note that the sidewalk will be CLOSED from just beyond the Marquee bar entrance to the Palace Theater’s main entrance. Upon exiting the Scovill Street parking garage, customers can access the Palace through two locations:
- The Courtyard - When exiting the parking garage through the Waterbury Arts Magnet Courtyard, Palace Theater guests will travel down the stairs towards E. Main St., where they will be directed to cross the street in order to access the sidewalk on the opposite side of the road. From there, patrons will walk south towards the crosswalk located in front of the UCONN building and directly across from the Palace Theater marquee. As always, Waterbury Police Officers will be present to assist patrons in the right direction.
- Brook Street - When exiting the parking garage through the Brook Street exit, Palace Theater guests should proceed north (past Dominic and Pia’s) towards E. Main St., and take a right on the sidewalk to access the Box Office or Palace Theater lobby doors.
Patrons who choose to park across the street from the Palace Theater in the Wellmore Parking Lot (located next to the UConn building) should note that while this lot is open and accessible to the public, it is located directly across from the construction zone and will only have one north bound and one south bound lane open for traffic. Since we do anticipate heavy vehichle and foot traffic before and after each show, patrons are strongly encouraged to park in the Scovill Street garage for greater ease during arrival and departure from the theater.
Please note that there is still a handicap and patron drop-off zone located on East Main Street in front of the theater entrance. The drop-off zone will be shorter in length, and due to increased traffic in front of the theater, guests will need to time their arrival accordingly.
Thank you for your patience during this busy time!
