Spanish Culture at Amity Middle School

Our Foundation provides life-changing educational opportunities in the arts to hundreds of youth and adults each year through its educational programming for schools, scholarship opportunities, and community projects.

For any age learner, the beauty and diversity of the Spanish culture cannot be fully appreciated by reading a book or watching a video … but a hands-on immersive experience creates a much more memorable learning experience. It brings a culture’s history, traditions, language & values to life.

This year, all 7th grade Spanish students at Amity Middle Schools – Orange & Bethany (about 350 students) participated in an interactive exploration of Spanish culture indigenous to the peoples of Spain, South & Central America, Mexico, & the Caribbean. Instructed by visiting artists, guitarist Lorena Garay and dancer Melinda Mendez, students tried their hands at playing traditional instruments (castanets, maracas, pan flute, guiro, etc.) and Flamenco dancing.
We sponsored the Spanish Culture Program at AMSO from 2012-2017 … we are thrilled to see it back this year at AMSO and taking place for the first time at AMSB!
