Newington Mainstage's 'Piano Man: A Tribute to Billy Joel' Cancelled
Newington Mainstage hopes to reschedule "Piano Man: A Tribute to Billy Joel" in the coming months. They have a few other projects in mind for, possibly, next year and they will continue to look for a local venue.
From Newington Mainstage
Despite tremendous effort, Newington Mainstage will be unable to produce and perform our final show of the 2013-2014 season, "Piano Man: A Tribute to Billy Joel." Sadly, our confirmed venue at the Newington Senior Center is not a viable space due to fire code restrictions.
We recently received news from the Town of Newington and the Newington Fire Marshall that we needed to determine a new performance space due to fire code issues. At this late date there are no venue options available in town and we have had to make the difficult decision to cancel "Piano Man: A Tribute to Billy Joel." Needless to say, we are truly upset by the circumstances in which we find ourselves and our theatre company.
Mayor Steve Woods and Town Manager John Salamone have been very supportive of Newington Mainstage and have expressed to us that they wish to host more theatre in Newington. Sadly, the municipal buildings are just not equipped to house theatrical performances or crowds numbering over 20 people until they are updated and renovated. We are hoping those changes may be made in the near future so that residents in the greater Hartford area can enjoy affordable community theatre.
As always, we are forging ahead with optimism. We hope to reschedule "Piano Man: A Tribute to Billy Joel" in the coming months. Additionally, we have a few other Newington Mainstage projects in mind for, possibly, next year and will continue to look for a local venue. For updates, please feel free to call or email us, or check out www.NewingtonMainstage.com. We thank you for your patronage and understanding.
