On Saturday, August 17, the Connecticut Campaign for Medicare for All (CCMA) will host a public
forum at Whitneyville Cultural Commons, 1253 Whitney Avenue, Hamden, CT. The event, titled the Medicare for All Statewide Forum and Day of Action, will take place from 1:00-3:30 p.m. Doors open at 12:30 p.m.

CCMA, a coalition of labor, community, faith, and activist organizations from around Connecticut,
has organized the event in order to advocate for the implementation of single-payer healthcare at the national level, confronting American society’s failure to address a worsening health crisis as high costs and lack of access continue to plague individuals and families. Led by a panel of experts and activists, the event will provide attendees with information on what Medicare for All means, how it can be implemented, how it will improve care, and the moral necessity of truly universal healthcare.

“Unlike a public option or other half-measures, Medicare for All means guaranteeing all medically necessary healthcare to every United States resident without co-pays, deductibles, or premiums,” said a CCMA representative, citing Sen. Bernie Sanders’ Senate Medicare for All Act (S. 1129) and similar legislation introduced by Rep. Pramila Jayapal in the U.S. House of Representatives (H.R. 1384).

Speakers will include Bishop John Selders of Moral Monday CT and the Poor People’s Campaign; UMass economist Robert Pollin, the lead author of an influential analysis of the economic effects of Bernie Sanders’ Medicare for All Act; Sheriden Aspinwall, R.N., coordinator of Boston Democratic Socialists’ Medical Debt Clinic; and others. The event will also feature breakout group actions, as well as tabling by co-sponsoring organizations.
