'Partners in Science Program' Expands Horizons for Chase Students

Waterbury, CT - At Chase Collegiate School, students are encouraged to do more than simply attend classes. For the last ten years or so, Chase has participated in the "Partners in Science Program" - an extra curricular opportunity for 2-3 selected high school students interested in pursuing a career in medicine. This 4-day program is run by the Boehringer-Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals company headquartered in Ridgefield. The selected students travel to the B.I. campus where they listen to lectures and participate in interactive guided tours of their facilities. The last "field trip" is to Duracell where they learn about research and development of batteries.

This year, students Andy Wang (‘20, Thomaston) and Nicholas Lockwood (‘21, Cheshire) were selected to participate. “I started studying biology a few years ago, and it’s something I find very interesting,” said Lockwood. “This program has shown me a variety of new career paths, as well as showing the interesting environment of the lab. I believe this experience will be beneficial to me within a future field of science.”

Andy Wang had this to say about his experience: “I wanted to see the crossing of different fields in a real, operating science lab, and I was thrilled to see how researchers with differing backgrounds wind up collaborating.”
