Police Blotter: Animal Cruelty and Forgery

The following information was provided by the public information officer at the Naugatuck Police Department. They are allegations at this point.

CRUELTY TO ANIMALS
Valerie Machnics, 41, 100 Old Highway Road, Naugatuck, was charged with cruelty to animals after police arrested her at Waterbury Court on March 9 for an incident that occurred Jan. 25. The Naugatuck animal control officer responded to her home for a follow-up on an animal complaint and while on the property the officer found a sick and emaciated pit-bull dog, police said. The animal was taken to a local veterinarian and euthanized, police said. Machnics was held at Waterbury Superior Court for her arraignment.

FORGERY
David Dows, 19, 21 Pond St., Naugatuck, was charged with second-degree forgery and criminal impersonation after police took him into custody on warrant on March 10 for an incident on Nov. 3 last year. Police said the warrant was for stolen jewelry totaling $1,345 that occurred on Nov. 2. Dows knew the victim and pawned the jewelry using a fake ID, police said. He was processed and held at Waterbury Superior Court for his arraignment.

EVADING RESPONSIBILITY
Tariq Abdulaziz, 42, 23 Kate Way, Windsor Locks, turned himself in on an active arrest warrant on March 9 at 7:31 a.m. on a charge of evading responsibilities. Abdulaziz struck a parked car on Meadow Street on Feb. 11 and left the area and a witnessed obtained his registration plate prior to him leaving the scene, police said. Abdulaziz is scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on March 23. He was released on a $500 non-surety bond.

DISORDERLY CONDUCT
Joan Rielly, 52, 19 Stoddard Road, Beacon Falls, was charged with disorderly conduct after police said she was involved in a domestic disturbance on Feb. 20 at 19 Visconti Drive. Rielly was released on a $2,500 non-surety bond and is scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on March 10.

CRIMINAL MISCHIEF
Clarence Chever, 36, 213 Millville Ave., Naugatuck, was charged with breach of peace and third-degree criminal mischief on March 8 after police said he threw a rock through his girlfriend’s window while both were in an argument around 11:30 p.m. Chever was held on a $2,500 surety bond and is scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on March 9.

ASSAULT
Herminio Guevara, 45, 67 Michael Lane, Naugatuck, was charged with disorderly conduct and third-degree assault after police responded to 67 Michael Lane for a domestic disturbance on March 9 at 12:33 a.m. Guevara was held on a $10,000 surety bond and is scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on March 9.

FAILURE TO APPEAR
Kevin Morse, 49, 206 North Hoadley St., Naugatuck, was charged with second-degree failure to appear on March 9 after he turned himself in on an active arrest warrant. Morse was held on a $1,500 surety bond and was scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on March 9.

BREACH OF PEACE
Gary Gehrmann, 59, 20 Melbourne Court, Naugatuck, was charged with breach of peace and third-degree criminal mischief after police responded to a landlord-tenant complaint where the tenant damaged a door on March 9, police said. Gehrmann was held on a $5,000 surety bond and is scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on March 10.

DRIVING UNDER SUSPENSION
Damien Saunders, 20, 26 Midfield Drive, Waterbury, was charged with driving under suspension, driving with a suspended registration and a failure to appear on March 9 after police stopped him on Maple Street around 8:20 p.m. Saunders was taken into custody and held on a $10,000 surety bond. He was due to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on March 10.

FAILURE TO APPEAR
Joseph Richards, 23, 26 Midfield Drive, Waterbury, was charged with second-degree failure to appear on March 10. Richards was released on a $200 cash bond and was scheduled to appear in Middletown Superior Court on March 10.

FAILURE TO APPEAR
Christopher Ferry, 21, 17 Carroll St., Naugatuck, was charged with second-degree failure to appear on March 10. Police said the report wasn’t finished so further details were not available.

FAILURE TO APPEAR
Shari Lotto, 38, 538 South Main St., Naugatuck, was charged with second-degree failure to appear on March 10 after he turned herself in on an active arrest warrant. Lotto was held on a $495 court-set surety bond and was scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on March 10.
