Preview of 'Peter Pan' at Blessed Sacrament Children's Theater
The awesome Children's Theater at Blessed Sacrament is in rehearsal for 'Peter Pan' under the direction of Bob Tansley.
“I know a place where dreams are born and time is never planned. Just think of lovely things and your heart will fly on wings, forever in Never, Never Land”
For those who have not yet heard of The Blessed Sacrament Children's Theater, here’s a little bit of our background. Director, Bob Tansley, Producer, John O’Donnell, Music Director, Keith Wilson and Set Designer, Cathy Christ started the Blessed Sacrament Children’s Theater in 2001, beginning this amazing journey with “Oliver,” and they have remained committed to it ever since.
What’s so special about our little theater company, you ask? It is that we invite kids from all over the area to be part of our shows and these children and their families stay involved. The O’Donnell and Christ families, for example, haven’t had kids in this school for some time and they come back every year to help backstage or with painting of the set. There are high school and college students teaching choreography and acting as the stage manager. There are even a few playing parts in the show. These kids have been a part of “Annie, Hello Dolly and The Wizard of Oz,” each twice, as well as “Seussical, Guys and Dolls, High School Musical, and Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.” Sadly, “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” was to be our last show for a time, and in 2012 our stage went dark.
Then, after countless months of hard work, dedication and pure love for the theater, in June of 2013 the spotlight shined again on a little red headed girl named “Annie.” This show was a milestone for our little BSS community. You see, a young man who had been an orphan in the first production of the show in 2002 came back to play the role of Daddy Warbucks, bald head and all, for this one. The kids worked so hard and sang their hearts out on that stage. Many cried after the final performance, worried that this might be their last performance. But our new and dare I say, amazing, Father Murasso walked up onto the stage, lifted his fist into the air and cheered, “The Blessed Sacrament Children’s Theater is here to stay!”
Now, here we are, a year later and most of those kids are back to play parts in “Peter Pan, The Musical” which is set to be our biggest undertaking thus far. This performance is unique not only because it involves over 110 kids, 35 of whom are adorable 3 – 6 year olds, but because this year, with the help of Flying by Foy, the most prolific and widely respected flying service in the world, our lead characters will FLY!!!
So, if you’re looking to see a great show at an amazing price I suggest you grab the whole family and come to see The Blessed Sacrament Children's Theater’s production of "Peter Pan, The Musical."
