Directed by Mary McVerry, with vocal direction and choreography by Sybil Chamberlin and instrumental direction by Holly McCann, the play involves twenty six students in a variety of acting singing and dancing roles.
In 1922 New York City, Millie Dillmount(Micaela Bottari) and Miss Dorothy Brown (Carly Hass) are just two of the girls living at the Priscilla Hotel for Single Young Ladies run by Mrs. Meers.(Felice Magistrali) The hotel houses many single young women, most of whom are in New York to make it big on stage. Alice (Casey Kulinski), Ruth (Morgan Kolukisa), Rita, (Lida Currier) Cora (Johanna Craig, Gloria (Franchesca Alvarez), Lucille (Gina Pirla) and Ethel(Gabrielle Cianciolo). Orphaned, Miss Dorothy, just recently arrived, is a naive, old-fashioned girl from a seemingly privileged background who has aspirations to be a stage actress. From more modest means, Millie, in New York for three months, used to be old fashioned, but now has a new modern sensibility and look to match, complete with bobbed hair and modern dresses Included in this new modern sensibility is Millie's goal of getting a job as a stenographer, with a quick promotion to being her wealthy boss' "Mrs.".
Love is not to factor into the equation. She believes she's found the right employer in the form of Trevor Graydon (Mitchell Canty) of the Sincere Trust Insurance Company. However, Graydon treats her like one of the boys and Millie herself has a mutual attraction to another boy named Jimmy Smith( Alex Polzun). Although she likes Jimmy, Millie feels that Jimmy, as a paper clip salesman with an overwhelming happy-go-lucky attitude, is not driven enough to be husband material. Miss Flannery (Rachel Crook) overhears Millie on the phone and makes it her mission to get rid of Jimmy and to have Millie “forget about the boys.”That doesn't stop Jimmy's pursuit of Millie. In her association with Jimmy, Millie meets flamboyant wealthy Renaissance woman Muzzy Van Hossmere (Devyn Bartosiewicz).
Romance is sometimes overshadowed by Mrs. Meers and her criminal activities of stealing orphans and selling them into white slavery. With the help of Chinese workers (Ching Ho (Hunter Ashner) and Bun Foo (Molly Serven) who are forced to help her because she has told them that she can bring Mama (Kristine Franklin)to America, they deliver the girls to be sent to Hong Kong. However when Miss Dorothy disappears, the others concoct a plot to not only find her but to get enough information to have Mrs. Meers arrested.
Other cast members include: Jazzmanny Alvarez, Cameron Blaisdell, Sarah Carr, Brittany Casaburi, Tyler Delventhal, Paige Dietch, Nicolette Marinelli, Julianna Provenzano, and Jack Wassik.
Despite the craziness of the roaring twenties, several of the young girls find the man of their dreams and the play ends with the arrival of another young girl with hopes and dreams of success.
