Republican-American Columnist Wins National Award
The Republican-American staffer Tracey O'Shaughnessy has won second place in a national award for her column.

WATERBURY, CT - Award-winning columnist Tracey O’Shaughnessy has been awarded another certificate of honor for her work in the Republican-American newspaper. The columnist garnered a second place award in the 2020 National Society of Newspaper Columnists competition.
Ms. O’Shaughnessy won second place in the general interest category for print publications under 50,000 circulation.
Publisher William B. Pape wrote: “We’re pleased with Tracey’s second-place national finish,” “As a journalist and as a writer, she is clearly at the top of her game. We’re pleased to offer her talents to our readers. She makes our newspaper and our website better.”

Ms. O’Shaughnessy was recognized for an Aug. 23, 2019 column about the San Francisco Board of Education’s decision to conceal a series of Depression- era high school murals that were deemed offensive to Black and Native American students.

Also considered was a Sept. 8, 2019 column about the summer night she watched Jupiter in the night sky with her son.
