2019 Father Cascia Service Award Recipients
Mark DePalma
Mark setup and managed the St. Vincent DePaul Mission website for approximately 12 years until our new website went online earlier this year. This work included frequent updates relative to event announcements, donation requests, social media links, and staff appointments. Of particular note is Mark’s value-added assistance in providing clear and comprehensive information for our two ongoing annual events: Walk in their footsteps -- Race for awareness in October and the annual banquet in April, including online registration. Mark also provided significant guidance in the project developing our new website.
Michelle White
Michelle is the quintessential example of a Father Cascia Service Award nominee. She is the Monday cook in our soup kitchen and has been for over ten years. This work involves preparing hundreds of meals for lunch at the soup kitchen and the evening meal for the shelter. Michelle began her current role as part of the Friends Feeding Friends group from Church of the Epiphany (now St. Bridget of Sweden Parish, Cheshire). Motivated by her faith and by the warm relationships formed with the people who come to the soup kitchen for their meals, she stepped up her volunteer efforts to an even higher level. Michelle also serves on the Religious Education Staff of St. Patrick Anthony Church, Hartford.
Waterbury HEALTH/Waterbury Hospital
Waterbury Hospital is a consistent, generous supporter of St. Vincent DePaul Mission events. The hospital provides sponsorships for our major events, organizes and encourages employees to participate in Walk in their footsteps – Race for awareness, including payment of event registration fees, and supports collections of basic personal items and fundraising activities among employees for SVDP. The hospital and SVDP Mental Health Division are also partners in the work of directly serving our poorest neighbors with behavioral health and addiction issues.
