SUMMER’S COMEDY NIGHT

SO YOU THINK YOU’RE FUNNY?

THURSDAY, AUGUST 22ND, PALACE THEATER

Waterbury, CT – This summer’s open mic evening is dedicated to comedy! The Palace Theater wants to shine the Spotlight on regional comedians. Hosted by Connecticut’s own Summer Orlando, the event takes place on August 22nd from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. Whether they are seasoned stand-up comics, newcomers to the scene, or a comedy sketch group, performers are invited to show off their comedy chops in the intimate Poli Club! This event is part of the Palace Theater’s CommUNITY Spotlight Series, which is funded by the Connecticut Community Foundation, and Mary Ellen & Tim Rourke.

“Our goal is to foster creativity and build an inclusive space that offers participants an opportunity to try out new material in an encouraging setting,” says Sheree Marcucci, Director of Special Projects & Curated Events for the Palace Theater. “It is a fun way to bring the community together and give a last hurrah for summer!”

Looking for a space to showcase your work? Participants 18+ are welcome. All performances should be appropriate for a PG13 audience. Each performer should be prepared to present one 5-7-minute-long set. There is no cost for performing, but registration is required. Comedy sketches are limited to four performers. About Summer OrlandoAs Connecticut’s premier theater drag queen and illusionist, Summer is known for her Broadway-quality costumes, showstopping performances, live singing, comedic timing, and her amazing event-hosting skills. Her hosting duties include bachelorette parties, anniversary celebrations, weddings, Pride events, drag brunches, dinners, and birthday parties for all ages. She performs throughout New Haven and Hartford counties, NYC, Florida, and everywhere in between!

Summer is the first male actor honored to play the role of Dorothy in a licensed production of The Wizard of Oz.

Her most notable work has been with her own theatrical production company, Summer Orlando Productions. Summer tours throughout the country performing her drag stage parodies and professionally impersonating Judy Garland, Bette Midler, Cher, Dolly Parton, Cyndi Lauper, Liza Minnelli, and other celebrities. She was handpicked by the producers of the movie Judy to be their meet-and-greet Judy Garland look-alike on June 30, 2019, for World Pride in New York City.

Summer is the producer, creator of her stage tribute show Hocus Pocus Live. Her impersonation of Winifred Sanderson received so much attention that she was chosen by Disney to appear in Hocus Pocus 2.Summer is one of the first drag performers tapped by TGI Fridays to start its first monthly drag cabaret event, hosted with her business partner Barbra Joan Streetsand. In her spare time, she teaches choreography and owns a children's theater, hoping to inspire kids to explore the wonderful and magical world of theater.
