Suspects Chased, Shot At Each Other On I-84 In Waterbury: State Police

Police said the incident occurred on the evening of June 8.

WATERBURY, CT β€” State police said they are investigating a shooting that occurred between the occupants of two cars on Interstate-84 in Waterbury.

On June 8 at 7:30 p.m., state troopers were dispatched to I-84 West in the area of Exit 20 on a report of people chasing and shooting at each other while driving, police said in a news release.

While troopers were responding, police learned that one of the cars involved in the shooting crashed on the Exit 20 off-ramp, but the driver fled the scene.

An investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with more information is asked to contact Troop A in Southbury.

Two people died after a shooting on Route 15 in Hamden early New Year’s Day. In that incident, state police said they responded at 2:25 a.m. on Jan. 1 to a report of people in a vehicle who had sustained gunshot wounds on Route 15 South in the area of Exit 60.

Also in January, one person was injured in a shooting on Interstate 91 near East Windsor. In that case, Connecticut State Police said troopers received a 911 call shortly after 2 a.m. regarding shots fired on I-91 northbound near exit 44. According to police, a person was driving a white 2019 Honda Accord in the center lane of three when a dark-colored SUV or truck pulled up alongside the car and fired multiple shots. Police said the victim was struck by gunfire multiple times.

And in February, police were called to a one-car crash scene around 3:20 a.m. Saturday on Route 7 near exit 2 in Newtown. John Gavilanes, 35, was found behind the wheel with gunshot wounds to his head and torso. He was declared dead at the scene, and the death is being investigated as a homicide.
