The Watermark to Host Presentation from Local Audubon Society

Ken Elkins from "Audubon Center at Bent of the River" to discuss local birds and their environments

On Tuesday, June 16, The Watermark at East Hill will host a presentation on local birds and their natural environments, presented by Ken Elkins, Education Program Manager at the Audubon Center at Bent of the River in Southbury. The event will be held at 1:30 at the retirement community, located at 611 East Hill Road in Southbury.

Mr. Elkins will discuss facts on local birds that share space with The Watermark residents, and how the community’s flourishing courtyard garden acts as the perfect environment for these animals.

Mr. Elkins is no stranger to the continuing care retirement community, which offers a range of senior living options, including a robust Independent Living program; over the past year, he has visited The Watermark several times to present on local birds and brought a group of Girl Scouts to the community last fall to build and plant perennials.

“We are always delighted to welcome Mr. Elkins back to The Watermark,” said Christine Daniel, Community Life Director. “The partnership that we have with the Audubon Center has created a wonderful opportunity for our residents to learn more about the natural beauty of our campus and has encouraged them to go out and do some amateur bird watching of their own!”

The Audubon Series is part of the ongoing Watermark University program, a continuing education initiative that features diverse topics and programs designed to keep seniors’ minds and bodies fit.
