Police Release Video From Armed New Canaan Bank Robbery: UPDATE

Nearly $9,000 in cash was stolen, according to New Canaan police.

NEW CANAAN, CT — New Canaan police have released surveillance footage and images from Wednesday's armed robbery of the People's United Bank on Main Street in New Canaan. See the video below.

The short video shows the two suspects entering the bank; one of the images above also shows one of the thieves at the counter.

The suspects made off with nearly $9,000 in cash, according to authorities.

The robbery occurred just before 4 p.m., and police were alerted by bank employees via 911 immediately afterward. The suspects had fled the scene by the time officers arrived, and no employees were injured during the incident.

"It appears from video surveillance that the two suspects fled in an early to mid- 2000s red two-door Chevrolet Monte Carlo missing a right front hubcap," police said, adding that the vehicle was recovered in New Canaan Thursday morning.

The two suspects wore masks, hats and hoodie type sweatshirts, according to police. One of the thieves displayed a handgun during the robbery.

In recent weeks, a series of People's United Banks have been robbed in Norwalk, Westport, Fairfield and other Connecticut communities.

The New Canaan Police Investigative Section is investigating the crime, as are multiple local and Federal agencies.
