2nd Suspect Arrested In New Canaan Check Fraud Scheme: Police
The second suspect surrendered to local authorities over the weekend.

NEW CANAAN, CT — A second suspect has been arrested by New Canaan police in connection with a fraudulent check cashing scheme in town, according to authorities.
Norwalk resident Kason Sumpter, 20, of San Vincenzo Place, surrendered to New Canaan police on Sunday and was charged with forgery, larceny and conspiracy, similar charges as those against his alleged accomplice, Andy Mitchell-Maynard, who was arrested by New Canaan police last week.
Sumpter, Mitchell-Maynard and a third, unnamed suspect are accused of allegedly forging counterfeit checks and then using other people's bank accounts to cash them.

The case dates back to February and involves the cashing of a fake check for $5,000, which was fraudulently deposited. Cash was subsequently withdrawn illegally, according to police.
Sumpter was released Sunday after posting bond on bail of $5,000 and is scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior Court on Oct. 1.
