Bobby Valentine Throws Support Behind Handler For CT Governor

The baseball great posted his endorsement on Twitter Friday of the New Canaan resident and Stamford Director of Administration.

NEW CANAAN, CT — Stamford native and baseball great Bobby Valentine is throwing out the first pitch in his support of Michael Handler, Stamford's Director of Administration, for Connecticut Governor.

On Friday, Valentine, currently Executive Director of Intercollegiate Athletics at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, wrote on Twitter that he's "scouted enough All-Stars to recognize that @handler2018 is the All-Star of CT Gov’s race."

Handler, a Republican and New Canaan resident, announced his candidacy last summer to replace former Stamford Mayor Dannel Malloy as Governor. He touts his success at rehabilitating Stamford's fiscal woes and is confident he can do the same for Connecticut.

"[Handler] fixed Stamford’s financial mess and is the only one who can do the same for our State," Valentine continued. "His background in the financial sector and public service makes @handler2018 my choice for CT!"

A slew of Republicans and Democrats have announced candidacies for Governor, which has crowded the field. So Valentine, who remains a popular presence in Connecticut, could give Handler a push toward the front of the pack.

Last fall, the Hartford Courant showcased Handler's fundraising prowess, highlighting the fact that he'd raised $114,000 in less than 80 days.
