Charter Commission Recommends More Changes to First Selectman Power

The board stood its ground on an already recommended changed and proposed another.

NEW CANAAN, CT- The Charter Revision Commission stood its ground on recommending a change of role of the first selectman on the Board of Finance. They also want to change the position's power when it comes to the Planning and Zoning Commission.

The board voted 5 to 4 against a motion to reconsider the recommendation for Board of Finance, according to the New Canaan Advertiser. The board wanted to remove the first selectman position as the chair of the board.

It also voted to recommend ending the first selectman's power to cast tie-breaking votes on the Planning and Zoning Commission.

Another motion to end the tie breaking power for Town Council, Board of Finance, Planning and Zoning and Parking Commission failed.

The proposed changes still have to go to the town council and to voters on Election Day before being put into effect.
