'Come Meet Kit' Picnic Proves A Fun And Informative In New Canaan

New Canaan Democratic First Selectman candidate Kit Devereaux held a meet-and-greet event in Mead Park on Oct. 28.

The following is a recap of the recent "Come Meet Kit" event, a picnic and discussion with New Canaan First Selectman candidate Kit Devereaux, written by Alyssa MacKenzie & Lisa Hannich, Event Organizers. Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 7:

Saturday’s sunny weather accompanied the “Come Meet Kit” Picnic perfectly, which was reflected by the meet and greet’s high attendance. The picnic was held from noon until 2 pm, and by 12 pm sharp the park began filling up with New Canaan residents eager to learn more about the Democratic candidate for First Selectman, Kit Devereaux.

Friendly dialogue naturally centered around Kit’s firm stances on town issues. Devereaux reiterated the importance of ensuring the budget is one that is fiscally responsible. This will be critical as New Canaan endeavors to improve cell service coverage as well as increase commuter parking at the train stations while working to maintain the town’s top rated schools.

The woman of the hour was accompanied by her husband, Robert Geitz, as well as two of the three Democrats on the same ticket as Devereaux. Liz Gores Donovan and Sven Englund are both running for Town Council, the latter as an incumbent, and both were in attendance while the third candidate, Colm Dobyn, held down the fort at the DTC Headquarters located at 106 Main Street.

The three campaigning Democrats were able to address all of the attendees’ questions over food and drinks to the backdrop of joyful squeals as children enjoyed the park’s amenities, and it was precisely the location of the event that lent itself to thoughtful exchanges regarding the ongoing issues those who frequent Mead Park believe should be brought to Town Hall.

Kit spoke with residents as they raised three main park concerns: littering at the park, the lack of safety surrounding the Metro North train tracks that run parallel to the little league fields, and the overdue renovations the play structure and surrounding ground cover are in need of desperately.

Chris Madden echoed the sentiments of afternoon when he said, “I live in New Canaan and I am supporting Kit Devereaux because she has the great combination of fiscal experience and a collaborative spirit which I think is very, very important going forward.”
