Cops: Back Yard of Naked New Canaan Man Not Quite Private Enough
Neighbors on Locust Avenue looked down on a man's practice of nude sunbathing because it wasn't private enough, police said.

A 60-year-old man was charged with breach of peace because his efforts at keeping his nude sunbathing private missed some parts, police said.
New Canaan police gave this account (an accusation not proven in court) of the matter:
When Jonathan Cleworth, 60, wanted to sunbathe in the nude, he would put up some sheets in his back yard on Locust Avenue so that neighbors on any side wouldn’t see. But if there was a way of keeping neighbors from the upper floors of his apartment complex there from seeing him, Cleworth didn’t use it.

One 80-year-old man said he was tired of seeing Cleworth in the buff, so he called police on Monday, Aug. 25, to complain. When police arrived at the address, they walked around back and encountered Cleworth unclothed.
Soon after police arrived, another neighbor told them Cleworth frequently sunbathes au naturel, and it makes her uncomfortable, although she’d been reluctant to call police.

Cleworth was issued a ticket charging him with second-degree breach of peace. He was released on a promise to appear Sept. 11 in state Superior Court in Norwalk.
