Former Coach Drops Lawsuit Against Fairfield County Youth Football League: Report

The coach accused the league of retaliating against him and his son after he complained that a New Canaan team put his players in danger.

FAIRFIELD, CT — The Fairfield father suing the Fairfield County Football League over claims that he was retaliated against for complaining that players from a New Canaan team put his players in danger with their rough play, has dropped the lawsuit in exchange for his son being put back on a team, according to the Connecticut Post.

The Post reports that Robert O’Connell, who was a volunteer coach for the Fairfield Wildcats for 10 years and claimed he was banned from coaching and his son was kicked off the team after he made the complaints, also agreed to not come within 40 yards of the playing fields.

O’Connell accused New Canaan players of punching and kicking his players after the whistle had been blown during a preseason game in 2015 and he was later suspended for his actions during the game, according to the Post.
