Hello Potholes, Goodbye Aloi,

Week in Review, Feb. 6-12, 2011

No news was good news, as far as weather was concerned. It was the first week in, well, weeks, that students went to school all five days. To make up for the six days the kids have already missed this year to snow and ice storms , the Board of Education voted to , a day previously scheduled as a non-teaching day.

The warmer temperatures and rain washed away snow and ice, only to reveal some pretty on New Canaan streets. DPW is patching the worst of them until spring comes and they can begin paving the roads. Patch got a little tired of the white and gray palette that's been dominating our site lately, and were happy to create a colorful and that our photographer, Melinda Fager, started with pictures she sent from the Bahamas.

After nearly six years on Main St., its doors on Saturday, Feb. 5. Owners Margherita and Cliff Aloi will be focusing their energy on a restaurant they opened in Shelton they opened last May. Cliff Aloi said they have two prospective buyers for the New Canaan location who are anxious to join New Canaan's growing ranks of restaurants.

Speaking of local eateries, if you haven't made a Valentine's Day dinner reservation yet, Terry Dinan has suggestions for four of New Canaan's top spots for a (and good food, too).

It was a week without weather warnings and a week without MTA-related headlines, too. On Monday, the MTA introduced its "" and we're assuming things are running smoothly because we haven't heard otherwise. Gov. Dannell Malloy met with MTA president Howard Permut and told us about the treatment New Haven Line customers have been receiving -- and our own Laurie Cantillo shared her thoughts about the , too.

On Friday, Patch introduced SportSeen, a multi-media look at a game-of-the-week.
