New Canaan Victorious In Dominant 2019 Turkey Bowl Win: Update

DARIEN, CT — The New Canaan High School Rams were too much for the undefeated Darien High School Thursday, handily beating the Blue Wave 20-0 in the 2019 Turkey Bowl rivalry football game at Darien High School Stadium.

Darien, which was 9-0 heading into the game, never got on track under windy conditions.

New Canaan on the other hand, which entered the contest with a season record of 7-2, led 14-0 at the half and tacked on one more touchdown for good measure after the intermission.

Thursday's win marks the Rams' third consecutive Turkey Bowl victory over Darien.

"This one's special, this one's special," said New Canaan coach Lou Marinelli, adding that New Canaan overcame injuries and a slow start to the season to improve its record to 8-2.

The stakes? The winner will receive a $100 donation to their town's athletic foundation from the loser.

Both teams held the same records heading into the 2018 match up, but New Canaan ended up edging out Darien, 17-14.

Beginning in the 1920s, the two rival schools have faced each other every season, but the traditional Thanksgiving Day game only dates back to 1994.
